Okay, we have learned about plate tectonics and the different boundaries. But the thing is.....

How Do Plate Tectonics affect Earthquakes??

You see, with the plates crashing and moving, the rocks slip and break, therefore releasing a ton of energy and that movement causes the earthquake. All boundaries create earthquakes.

Convergent Boundaries

Since the colliding of the two plates causes the rock to bend and slip, they break and slip, and that is what causes earthquakes. The rock that was getting melted is coming back up to the surface, and that causes even more earthquakes.

Divergent Boundaries

When two plates break to move apart from each other, they break along a parallel fault. Earthquakes happen along these faults.

Transform Fault
Boundaries

As the plates slide against each other, they cause a lot of strain on the rocks. When that pressure finally releases on the rocks, it will cause an earthquake because of the tremendous burst of energy.
